Continuation

Jumping to avoid the wires I discovered that they only ran through the centre. Banging on the glass I managed to get the attention of the girl. I pointed down to my feet and mouthed the word ‘run’; it took me three attempts to get her to understand. “GO!”, finally she understood and ran for her life while I stood my ground. The punishment I might get cannot be worse than what that poor girl must’ve received many times now. “Hope… Darling you’re supposed to run; we don’t want to hurt you. It needs to be a fair test. So, please, run.” I’d never heard this voice before; it was obviously feminine and had an effect on me that made me want to obey. “If you wanted it to be a fair test, you would have given me competition that isn’t anorexic! I’m not running!” I screamed at the top of my lungs; obviously the whole arena could hear me because there was huge gasp of joined voices. To make my point crystal clear I crossed my legs and sat myself in the corner; as far away from the wires as possible.

A door (invisible to the eye) crashed open next to me and in stormed a man I had seen only twice before. But still the sight of him had me flinching from the oncoming pain.

“Get up. Now. Otherwise-“

“No. I don’t care what happens. I am not running. I will suffer the punishment instead of that poor girl. Because obviously if I win she will be punished for losing. I can’t live with myself knowing that I can prevent her suffering!”

Pain erupted in my right cheek causing my eye to twitch erratically. Spreading through my entire body the electricity affected each nerve ending, making me convulse violently. Unable to focus my eyes on anything I could just make out the shape of a man stalking me with a long, object in his hand. That must be where the electricity came from. He aimed at my ear this time. The most excruciating pain consumed me, causing me to curl up in a ball with my hands cupped to my ear to protect it from the sounds. Even the man's breathing was sending shock waves through my ear drum. “Get Up!”, considering the situation I found his muffled voice slightly funny, but my giggles died on my tongue as my brain caught up with what I was thinking.

“NO!” I cry, I couldn't decide whether it was fear or the electricity making my voice quiver and seem weak.

“Fine, your choice.” Pain; closer to my temple this time, leading to more convulsing. “But just to inform you…” his face grew clear as he brought his lips to brush my ear, “the girl will be punished because of your behaviour.” With a snigger at my gasp he brought the taser straight down on my temple. Blackness.

THUMP

“Get Up.”

THUMP

“GET UP!”

I open my eyes as the world spun around in front of me, leaving me disorientated until my cage found the floor and the left side of my body found the cage wall. “Oww…” I realise the pained moan escaped from me so I clamp hand over my mouth before another could escape.

“Aww, you’re awake. I was looking forward to using another method.” It was the idiot from the arena, I could feel the smile spreading across his face as he says the words, accompanied with the crackle of a cattle prod. “Well I would’ve woken straight away. If you hadn’t busted my ear!” I snarl, bringing my swollen face closer to the bars of my cage. Bad mistake. The shock knocks me off my haunches, smacking my head against the back of the enclosed space. If they were counting on me to concentrate today, they weren’t helping. The electricity raged through my body, making my hair stand up on end and I kicked out; purely out of frustration at myself for being an idiot. Mistake number two. I didn’t realise that whilst the electricity racked my body that the brute that shocked me had opened my cage door and his face was in range of my foot as he grabbed to drag me out. My bare foot connected to his nose, crunching under the force. He grunts as the blood began to gush down his face, spilling into his mouth; making him look animalistic. I righted myself immediately; the look of revenge in his eyes scarred me completely. “I’m sorry. I…I…didn’t realise…. You opened the door. Please. Don’t hurt me.” The fear completely over took me now. Tears spilled over my cheeks and into my mouth- the first taste of water I’d had for three days! I babbled as I tried to make myself as small as possible in the corner of cage. I’m a petit built person anyway, so it wasn’t so hard to move out of his grasp.

What I didn’t count on was him commanding his sadistic, idiot of an assistant, ‘James’, to rip the top of the cage off. Four clicks of buckles. A bright light. Then I was pinned to the pristine floor of the lab; the brute straddling my arms and legs- I was immobilized. His blood splatters across my face as he snarled incoherent words at me. Struggling to breathe under the sheer weight; this man was in no way built to be anything but a bodyguard, never mind a scientist. Standing at around 6 foot his shoulder were three times the size of my slightly athletic ones and his veins bulged out of his skin at every opportunity. Completing the menacing look was his shaven head and the large, puckered scar that ran the circumference of his scalp. I was-unfortunately- his favourite subject.

The pressure eased. Gasping for air I moved out all fours, he took this opportunity to kick me in ribs, knocking me onto my back- once again ridding me of precious oxygen. “That’s better. Listen up sweetheart, I’m going to go and clean myself up while James here keeps an eye on you. Go get showered and dressed. It’s a big day today. So look the best you can, in your state. I’ll be back in about half an hour.” He grabbed me in the blink of an eye, picking me up and pinning me to a wall. His face was so close the metallic smell of blood filled my head.

“You best had behave today. You have an audience. And if you step one foot out of line, I swear I will do much worse than the dog crate. Do you understand me darling?” I nodded as much as I could.

“Sorry, what was that? I can’t hear you?”

“Yes sir, sorry sir” I barely mumbled.

“Louder!”

“Yes sir, sorry sir!”

Thankfully I was able to have free reign of the bathroom.
